Visiting Canada: visitor emergency medical insurance
Visitor insurance is intended for visitors, super visa applicants, new immigrants, students and workers, among others. It primarily covers eligible emergency medical expenses from unexpected accidents or illness in Canada, not routine checkups.
The coverage limit is the maximum per insured person, not the premium. The website lists visitor plans from CAD $15,000–$200,000. Availability and pricing of the $15,000, $25,000 and $100,000 options you mentioned must be checked in the booking system and formal quote. Super visa insurance requires at least CAD $100,000; lower limits do not qualify.
| Plan | Eligible ages | Pre-existing conditions | Deductible | Key differences |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Enhanced | Ages 0–85 | Pre-existing conditions meeting the policy definition of stability may be covered; check the stability period and questionnaire first. | Options from CAD $0–$10,000, generally per person per policy. | Emergency medical, accidental dental and other benefits; ages 60–85 require a health questionnaire. |
| Standard | Ages 0–85 | Pre-existing conditions are excluded. | Options from CAD $0–$10,000, generally per person per policy. | Emergency medical, accidental dental and other benefits; no health questionnaire required. |
| Basic | The website states no upper age limit; eligibility still requires verification. | Pre-existing conditions are excluded. | Options from CAD $0–$10,000, applied per claim. | Streamlined emergency medical coverage; some dental benefits are excluded and follow-up limits differ. |
This table summarizes key differences only. Consult the official comparison and policy for benefit limits, exclusions, deductibles, eligibility, waiting periods and pricing. The website's monthly payment plan applies only to CAD $100,000, $150,000 or $200,000 coverage, with additional term and fee conditions.
Parent and grandparent super visa insurance
Current Canadian immigration guidance requires proof of qualifying private medical insurance at application and each entry; a quote alone is insufficient.
- Valid for at least one year from entry; covers health care, hospitalization and repatriation, with at least CAD $100,000 in emergency coverage.
- Insurance may be from a Canadian insurer or an eligible foreign insurer meeting immigration requirements; carry proof of coverage for each entry.
- Premiums must be paid, or meet permitted instalment and deposit arrangements. Before selecting 21st Century instalments, verify the deposit, fees, refunds and effective dates.
Visa approval, insurance taking effect and eligibility for coverage are separate matters. Refer to current immigration rules and the final English policy issued.
Other travel coverage for Canadian residents
The website separately lists plans for Canadian residents travelling outside their province or country. These differ from visitor insurance; do not combine their CAD $10,000,000 and CAD $200,000 limits in one quote table.
Single-trip emergency medical
For eligible unexpected medical events while Canadian residents with provincial health coverage travel outside their province or country. The website lists up to CAD $10,000,000, subject to policy terms.
Single-trip all-inclusive plan
May combine emergency medical, trip cancellation/interruption, baggage and travel accident benefits, each with its own limits.
Trip cancellation and interruption
Primarily addresses eligible non-refundable trip costs and trip interruption. It does not allow cancellation for any reason; that requires checking optional additional coverage.
Annual multi-trip and top-up coverage
For multiple trips in a year, select coverage by the duration of each trip. If an employer or credit card provides too few days of medical coverage, check eligibility for a top-up plan.
Before you buy
- First establish your status and trip: visiting Canada or a Canadian resident travelling outside your province or country. These policies and coverage limits differ.
- Disclose pre-existing conditions, recent medication changes, follow-up care and hospitalization truthfully, and read the definition of stability. Enhanced coverage does not unconditionally cover every pre-existing condition.
- Visitor insurance purchased after arrival in Canada usually has a sickness waiting period. A new renewal policy may also require reassessment of eligibility.
- Visitor emergency medical insurance does not pay for routine checkups, general health maintenance or regular prescription renewals. In an emergency, promptly contact the assistance number in your policy.
- Refunds, early return, instalments, side trips and deductible calculations have specific conditions. Refer to the applicable policy and formal quote.
The Chinese material is a reading aid. If it differs from the official English policy, insurer documents or government rules, those documents prevail. This page provides no live premiums or individual eligibility decisions.
